Learning Through Fog

Uncertainty is like being in dense fog: you know there are tangible realities about where you are and even where you will end up if you continue on that trajectory but you can’t see any of it. While waiting for the “light at the end of the tunnel,” it’s critical to continue learning while in the dark and there are excellent strategies available to us.

Take courage from the way that entrepreneurs learn rapidly by testing hypotheses with iterative and quick, low-cost experiments or consider how startup accelerators encourage crowd learning and talking with others actively engaged in the same field. Focusing on one thing at a time instead of trying to attack all issues at once and using “simple rules” from past experience are strategies that thin the fog, illuminating and revealing the future that is coming.
